What better present to get your dear old dad on Father's Day? Especially if he likes a nice drop of the hard stuff out of a spiffy crystal decanter.
But it's not whiskey in this decanter, it's actually sake — nihonshu. It's an extra-special (cho-tokusen) daiginjo from Hakushika, brewed from Yamadanishiki rice milled to 35 percent.
Apparently this sake has won awards at the Monde Selection three years running, and is packaged in a carafe of Belgian Val Saint Lambert crystal. Hence the price: ¥105,000 (for 600 ml).
This was spotted in Mitsukoshi in Yebisu Garden Place. The funny thing is, if you order it direct from Hakushika's online store it's half the price — a mere snip at ¥52,000!
