I'd never think to go to a convenience store to buy sake (or very much else, for that matter). But once in a while, there's a surprise to be found on the liquor shelves next to the cans of happoshu, chuhai and ume sour.
Such as these...
I like the simple sharp design — including the name/description in romaji letters (always useful when it comes to sake labels). I also like that they deliver just about the perfect amount (180 ml) for a medium-length commute home on the train. Better yet, the sake inside is not just good, it's "natural". Yay, sake that's good for you!
On the left (in the blue bottle): a junmaishu brewed with organic rice, from Chiyogiku in Gifu. On the right: a junmai-daiginjo genshu from Azakura in Akita.
They're part of a range of 6 nihonshu (2 each from three different breweries) selected and packaged by Tanaka Bungo Shoten, a sake shop/distributor in Takanawa (near Shinagawa) for the Natural Lawson chain.
