So what does lie behind that formidable noren across the entrance at the Midtown branch of Toraya?
Well, sakura-mochi for one thing:
Trays and trays of these spring specialties — at least for the next week or so. These ones are made in the Kanto/Tokyo style, with little mochi-rice "crepes" folded over the cherry-red filling of koshi-an bean jam, wrapped in the salt-preserved cherry leaves.
And quite a few other sweets with cherry motifs too.
Toraya has plenty of other wagashi to offer, as well as some stylish tableware, furoshiki and other souvenirs. It also has a small dining room serving simple lunches and — of course — sweets. More in a future post...
