I love these tajines. They have an African earthiness, leavened with a lightness — a jocular sense that's amusing but never kawaii cute.
There's a fine selection, all different but with the same warm, hand-thrown feel. These are the tajines...
And these are cocottes — ceramic casseroles that are perfect for slow-cooking, either on the cooker-top or in the oven...

They're made by Makishi Yuko, a ceramics artist based in Zushi.
And this week — until Sunday Dec.12th — she has an exhibition at a very interesting gallery in Kamakura...
Gallery Shouzan is a couple of minutes walk from the beach (Yuigahama-kaigan) and the coast road (Rt. 134) — though you'd never find it without a map.
It's at the front of a property that was the home/atelier of the late artist Asai Kan'emon — which currently (this week only) is open to the public too [expect a post on that tomorrow].
