I dropped in to look at the newly revamped Mitsukoshi in Ginza today, and I wasn't alone. The weekend punters were out in force to look around the sexy new-look depachika food department, which now rivals Isetan for style and glamour.
The longest line was at the Johan bakery on the B2 floor. But the biggest buzz was one floor further down. In the meat section, the joints of premium wagyu beef gleam in their display units...
There's a heavyweight selection of hams — with equally heavyweight price tags...
And there are some tasty little eating/drinking counters...
...it was the matsutake (from China) that were the centre of attention...
But it was the fish department that drew me in with its gleaming array of pristine seafood.
The mongers were cutting up the second of two whole huge tuna. Line caught off Kagoshima just a couple of days earlier, the sign says.
All the sashimi was tempting. But no prizes for guessing what I splurged on and took home for dinner...
