It's a long way from Tokyo, but if you ever find yourself in the UK and you're anywhere in the environs of Bath, do yourself a favour and make a point of dropping by the Fine Cheese shop.
It's actually two shops in one. On the left they sell the cheese, along with a great selection of charcuterie, olives, bread, wine, etc...
And on the right is a tea/coffee room serving soups and light snacks, outrageously good cake and the best sandwiches in the county.
The selection of ice creams, gourmet chocolates and other goodies is always tempting...
But it's the other half of the store that makes this place so good:
As the name promises, there is an outstanding array of cheeses...
as well as charcuterie...
and olives and more...
Not surprisingly, there's plenty of good stuff imported from across the Channel.
But most of it is home-grown — with a lot of local cheeses from Somerset and the southwestern counties.
This is cheese to make you dream....
