It's been a very long time since I've had vegetable soup with whole barley grain in it. This one was 'homemade' with fresh veggies by the young anglophone ladies who work in one of my favourite cafés in Shibuya.
But I'd forgotten how substantial and filling the barley makes it — I was still digesting it several hours later. Glad I didn't order wholewheat bread with it!

PS: This was a late lunch at one of the large, al fresco tables at the excellent Margaret Howell Cafe which, like the fashion brand whose name it shares, promotes a very tasteful version of English style and lifestyle.
