The first flowers have just opened on the ume tree in our garden. This tree, which we planted almost exactly 28 years ago (winter 1982), blossoms much later than the ornamental varieties we see around town. That's because it's a productive "working" ume tree.
Hopefully each of the bossoms will form into buds, which will then develop into fruit like this:

I may not have green fingers (or a green thumb if you're from the US), but in my garden red fingers (and thumbs) are good enough for me.
